Print on Demand

We’re transitioning to Print on Demand (POD) for our printed patterns. This means each book is printed individually once you place your order and then shipped directly to you when it’s ready! Currently, only Stitching Outside the Box and Stitch People Nursery Patterns are available as Print on Demand, but eventually, all our books (and even some of our previously digital-only patterns) will be available as Print on Demand!

What is Print on Demand?

In the past, we’ve had large batches of books printed here in Utah, stored at a nearby warehouse, and shipped out when you placed an order. Now when you place an order, the book is printed at one of several printing facilities around the world (whichever one is closest to you) and shipped straight to you when it’s finished!

Can I order if I live outside the U.s.?

YES! We’re happy to announce that you’ll finally be able to order our books from outside the US without having to pay ridiculous shipping fees! Because your book will be printed at the facility closest to you, it’s possible the book may even be printed and shipped from your own country!

How long does it take?

Because your book is printed once you place your order, it can take about a week to actually print, and then another week or so to arrive. On average, you can expect your book in 2-3 weeks from the time you place your order.

Will I get a tracking number?

You will indeed! Once your book ships, the Print on Demand network alerts us, and we then alert you!

What if something is wrong with my book?

As with any order issue you may have, just let us know! We’ll absolutely fix the issue like we would if your book had shipped from our warehouse. Just send us an email, let us know what’s up, and we’ll take care of you!

Why the change?

It’s not very efficient to have a bunch of books stored at a warehouse, waiting for people to order them. In addition to having to pay for the book printing up front (a pretty big cost), we have to pay to store them at the warehouse, we pay for packing material, we pay for someone at the warehouse to pick and pack your order, and then we pay for the postage to send it to you. That’s a lot of overhead and logistics to manage, and keeps a lot of money tied up in books sitting at the warehouse, waiting to be sold.

 

With Print on Demand, we don’t have to worry about any of that. We just send your order to the Print on Demand service, pay for the printing and shipping costs upfront, and they print the book and send it directly to you.

It took us a lot of trial and error to find the right Print on Demand service. We needed one that had good quality paper and printing options, could print and ship anywhere in the world, and could do it relatively quickly and cheaply. We’ve finally found it, and will start moving all our printed books to Print on Demand—and we’ll start offering previously digital-only books as printed books as well!
